IBA boss says Lorenzo ‘will happen’

14 May 2008

The chairman of IBA Health has told E-Health Insider that he is not aware of any problems that would prevent the installation of Lorenzo at three NHS pilot sites this summer.

In an exclusive interview with EHI Gary Cohen says of the long-delayed NHS delivery of the first software carrying the Lorenzo badge: “There is a jointly agreed strategy to go live. I’m not aware of any major issues to delay this, nobody is alerting us.”

Cohen goes on to say that where any outstanding issues exist they will be fixed. “Whatever software issues exist I think they will be dealt with in the timeframes agreed.”

The IBA chairman adds that the question of if Lorenzo will be delivered has been removed. “No longer is it ‘will this be happening’. It is happening.”

In the full interview, Cohen outlines his view of how in just six months IBA Health has turned around a failed iSoft, and rebuilt the relationship with its key customers in the NHS IT programme: Computer Sciences Corporation and NHS Connecting for Health.

He says that once the company has successfully delivered Lorenzo to the NHS it will have a platform and accompanying momentum to deliver to other international markets, including Russia and China.

Non-denial denial

“There is a jointly agreed strategy to go live. I’m not aware of any major issues to delay this, nobody is alerting us.”

This doesn't sound like quite the ringing endorsement that we might have hoped for - it doesn't deny the existence of "major issues"; it denies only Mr Cohen's knowledge of such "major issues". As the full interview makes clear, it is certainly a good thing for shareholders that IBA and iSoft have integrated their businesses with improved profitability, but it doesn't greatly change the situation of customers.

"The chairman of IBA Health has told E-Health Insider that he is not aware of any problems that would prevent the installation of Lorenzo at three NHS pilot sites this summer." according to the UCL report on the SCR, Bolton and Bury both have "Community Lorenzo" I'll try again:- WHAT IS LORENZO? is it a hospital system, or is it, as declared by CSC at an EoE, a single shared EPR? And what is Community Lorenzo - and how does it relate to Lorenzo at any level? it really would help service developments if we had an answer.
