Applicants looking to work in health informatics can join the industry from four different career pathways, and should always be on the lookout for opportunities to continue their professional development, delegates at E-Health Insider’s Healthcare IT Careers Forum were advised.

Mik Horswell, director at UKCHIP, said that the industry needed more people working in health informatics, but a sense of professionalism was also vital in any of the four pathways which he defined as:
• managerial,
• technical/ICT,
• informatics/information and
• specialised areas such as knowledge management, clinical coding or specialist clinical informatics.

Tailored CVs will grab employer’s attention

Tailoring your CV to meet the job specification advertised is the key to ensuring your place on the shortlist for a job you want.

Get as much information possible from the job advertisement and seek the further information if it is available before applying for the position, HR consultant, Jane Pepe, told the audience at E-Health Insider’s Healthcare IT Careers Forum.

She also advised candidates to tailor their CVs for each job – not just send out a standard document and to assess carefully what the employer is looking for.

“You have to demonstrate that you have the skills to fit against the person specification. Shortlisters are looking to see if you have the essentials they want, so in the first steps it is very important that you read the advertisement very carefully and follow the instructions.” More >>>
