JACJAC

It often needs Hollywood to raise an issue’s profile. The latest public reminder of the dangers of medication errors were the near-death experiences of Dennis Quaid’s newborn twins who were given 1,000x the recommended dose Heparin because the nurse misread the label. Thankfully, the NHS has realised it can’t afford to wait and we have seen the uptake of ePrescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) systems accelerate.

Currently the States of Guernsey, Ayr and Arran and, most recently, South London and Maudsley are all working with JAC on major e-prescribing projects to make trust-wide EPMA available to frontline staff. These organisations, along with established users such as Heart of England, Doncaster, Great Ormond Street and Winchester, are also using EPMA to address issues such as PbR, performance and operational intelligence and continuity of care between acute and community settings.

Niall Poole from the Heart of England Trust will be presenting a case history on reaping the additional benefits of EPMA at HC2008 (Monday 1pm). We invite all those interested in modern pharmaceutical care to come to the presentation and join us on the JAC stand (B100).
