TeleHealth describes the delivery of health-related services over a distance using information and communications technologies. It is expected that such services will help European health systems to better cope with, e.g., growing demands arising from an ageing population, increasing consumerism, or limited supply of funding. Common applications include telephonic services such as NHS Direct, use of home telemonitoring devices, tele-consultations, or use of text messaging as appointment reminders and medication alerts.
